Comments:

I married my pen pal I had during my senior year, Hector Balboa. He was stationed in Frankfurt Germany in 69/70, where he met my brother, Ernesto Nevarez, Jr, a 1969 IHS graduate. Hector volunteered for Vietnam and served there from 70-71. I did not meet Hector face-to-face until Oct 21, 1972, when he was stationed in Fort Hood, TX. We immediately bonded, started going "steady." I guess that's what it was called back in the day. He slipped my IHS graduation ring off my finger and slipped it on his pinky finger. Long story short, we have had several bumps in the road, but Friday, June 22, 2012, we celebrated our 38th wedding anniversary. We have two children, Ruben and Cindy, who have blessed us with a total of four grandchildren. in '98 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I beat the beast and am paying it forward to the American Cancer Society (ACS) by raising money for research and education through the annual Relay for Life and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. I am also an advocate for ACS, and lobby for cancer research and advancement. I hate this disease because of what it has done to me and my family members that I have lost or are fighting cancer right now. Oh, I retired from the federal government, mostly working for the Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) with 30 years of service. Immediately after retiring I spent one month in Germany, and am just waiting for Hector to retire from DHS, so we can continue our world travels that we thoroughly enjoyed while he was serving our country. Oh, I also finally received a Bachelors in Business Management in 2009, at the age of 56. IT'S NEVER TOO LATE! I look forward to hearing from anyone who remembers me. I was a nobody in school, mostly stayed to myself. If you remember me, feel free to contact me. My Facebook handle is Relay Queen, since I have participated in 16, soon to be 17 Relays for Life.

School Story:

Nothing to report. I was a minority in a school full of non-hispanics. :(
